20 Second Rule
One good rule to follow when washing those dirty hands of yours is to wash them for at least 20 seconds to stop the spread of germs.
Following this rule ensures that you are taking enough time to properly clean your hands. Instead of rushing through the process.

Always Use Soap
Never ever wash your hands without soap just don’t do it! Proper hand washing hygiene requires soap.
Always use a generous amount of soap while washing your hands. And contrary to popular believe research has proven that the type of soap you use doesn’t matter.
So, any kind of soap will do as long as it is soap!

When washing your hands during flu season don’t get lazy!
Make sure that you are washing all over. On the top of your hands, between your fingers, up your nails, and up your wrists.

An important step of the hand washing process is to not touch the faucet after washing your hands.
This is especially important if you are in the bathroom. Instead use a towel to turn the faucet off.
And for extra measure you can also try to open the door without touching the door handle. Or use your shirt or towel as a barrier from making direct contact.

How to Avoid Dried Out Hands

You can still practice proper hand washing without aging your hands a few decades.
Avoid Hot Water
There is no evidence that supports the claim that hot water is better to wash your hands with. For hot water to kill germs it would have to be much hotter than our skin could take.
Because of this it is best to wash your hands with cold water in order to avoid drying out your hands.
During flu season or the sick season as I like to call it. We are having to wash our hands constantly so avoid hot water like the plague!
Another important tip to help your dry hands to recover from all of this hand washing is to moisturize.
Buy yourself a heavy-duty hand moisturizer to use routinely during the day to help your skin recover.
It is good to have a variety such a light water-based moisturizer for fast absorbing moisture. And a heavier oil-based moisturizer for a deeper conditioning effect.
Shea butter is one of the best options for soothing dry hands for a heavy oil based moisturizer. This shea and sandalwood hand lotion is also a wonderful lotion option with the addition of shea butter!
Wash Your Hands Over Using Hand Sanitizer
Depending on your specific circumstances this may or may not be realistic.
But if it is possible and safe to do so it would be better if you could choose hand washing over using hand sanitizer.
Hand sanitizer contains a large percentage of alcohol which is incredibly drying. So, it is best to use it only when absolutely necessary.
And if you just cant avoid using hand sanitizer repeatedly. Try to find one that is a bit more gentle on the skin like this aloe hand sanitizer which contains soothing aloe vera.
