We are going to be discussing flax seed benefits. And why they are something that deserves a spot in our diet. Especially when there are other wonderful options like hemp seeds, chia seeds and so many more.
And since there are many articles that tend to focus purely on the benefits of something and nothing else. I am also going to share a few ideas as to how I incorporate flax seeds into my daily meals. We could all use a little food inspiration every once in a while, right?

One very exceptional benefit to flax seeds is the fact that the good fats! The good fats in flax seeds are very beneficial for the heart. They can help to reduce blood pressure, bad cholesterol, and prevent artery hardening! There have even been studies done to prove that flax seeds can greatly help to reduce those with high cholesterol.
Another flax seed benefit is that it contains both soluble and insoluble fiber. Both fibers work together to create a healthy digestive tract. One that is able to efficiently do its job by removing waste.
Somewhat like chia seeds, flax seeds create a slim which is called mucilage. Mucilage is formed when flax seeds are combined with water. Creating a feeling of fullness for longer periods of time. This can in some cases help with weight loss.
Research suggests that the omega-3 fatty acids that flax seeds contain could possibly prevent certain types of cancer from growing. But this of course should be taken with a grain of salt.
There are many other benefits that flax seeds claim to have such as the ability to help patients manage diabetes, reduce hot flashes and ease arthritis symptoms. But most are not conclusive or still need research to even really be worth considering.

Flax Seed Benefits That you Get From Eating Them
There are many flax seed benefits to be reaped as you can see. Of course, they are not a cure all, but they do pack a pretty healthy punch and can give anything that they are added to a nutritional boost.
Unlike some ‘superfoods’ flax seeds are relatively mild flavored and easy to incorporate into different foods. Because of that flax seeds are a very simple way of incorporating a bit more nutrition into your diet in a low stress way.
I don’t know about you, but my diet definitely misses the mark sometimes and though I may try I’m sure I miss out on many different things that could benefit me. No one’s diet is ever going to be perfect it’s just about trying to find that nutritional balance between health and flavor.
Learning what foods you can enjoy and what foods you just cant. Eating healthy should never be unpleasant!
That is why I have compiled a list of ways that you can insert more flax seeds into your diet. So that you can enjoy the flax seed benefits that are there to be had!

You also have the option of pre-ground flax seeds if you plan on using ground flax seeds. I’d highly recommend buying them pre-ground to save yourself some time and effort. Trust me, I know this from experience!
One really simple way of adding a spoon full or two of flax seeds into your diet is by adding them to smoothies.
I like to think of smoothies as being quite similar to soup because you can throw just about anything in them. Smoothies will forever be one of my favorite ways of adding healthier foods into my diet without ever having to taste them!
You can add a spoon or two and enjoy your smoothie without being any the wiser. Just make sure that the flax seeds are properly blended otherwise you might have to chew your smoothie which is never a good thing.
If you enjoy baking like I do than this tip is most definitely for you! If you don’t enjoy baking, then you will just need to sit this one out and contemplate your life’s decisions.
Baked goods are a great way of incorporating flax seeds into your food. They can add a bit of texture to breads and cakes and a bit of crunch if sprinkled over the tops of muffins.
Some of us might perhaps, eat a bit too much bread and cake so this is a great way to load up those treats with a bit more nutrition.

We all love a good crunch, don’t we? Something toasty and textured on the top of something that otherwise might be one noted. Flax seeds are a great addition to crunchy topping and tastes very good when they are toasted.
You can add them to a combination of toasted seeds and nuts to sprinkle over pureed soups. Or add them to a sticky sweet granola to pile on top of a smoothie bowel. Or even add them to the top of hummus to add a little more texture to something that is usually very smooth.
I personally really love to add these flax seeds to anything granola or cereal related for an extra bit of texture and nutrition!
I’ll admit that ‘crusted foods’ doesn’t necessary roll of the tongue, but I didn’t know what else you would call it! Just imagine crispy eggplant and herb crusted tofu or even a peach cobbler!
You can use ground flax seeds as a healthy addition to anything that you would normally crust. Such as crispy vegetables, casseroles, and fruit cobblers.
Flax seeds add great texture and bite to any kind of crust that you usually make, and they are so mild in flavor that they won’t mess with anything that you add them to.
This last tip is a strange one I’ll admit but it is a very useful way of using flax seeds. And that way is as an egg replacer.
As mentioned above, flax seeds create a mucilage that is very similar to egg whites which make it a great substitute.
Not only does a flax seed egg add in extra nutrition to whatever you are making with it. But it also allows you to eat whatever you are making raw! No risks of salmonella you can lick the spoon if you want to!
Granola and Energy Bars
Another amazing way to enjoy flax seed benefits is to use them as an ingredient in granola or homemade energy bars!
These nutritious little seeds will help to add a nutritious boost to your homemade granola or bars. Adding an extra bit of crunch as well, without altering the flavor.
For granola you will need to incorporate a binder such as honey or maple syrup, however. Otherwise the flax seeds won’t stick to the rest of your granola.

I wouldn’t blame you! Flax seeds are incredibly versatile and easy to use in your day to day meal planning. They are nutritional without being unpleasant or invasive. If you’ve ever used spirulina or turmeric, you’ll know what I mean.
In terms of health foods, flax seeds are also more affordable an option than many others which is something that many of us have to take into account.
I believe whole heartedly in creating healthy habits that can actually stick and be a part of our lifestyle. I don’t believe or think its necessary to spend too much on a special superfood that you will only be able to use for a month or two.
Health is all about creating a lifestyle that you can obtain and continue with. It isn’t about juice cleanses or detoxing it’s about the day to day living that we do.
