Natural Ways of Lowering Blood Pressure at Home

For the sake of this article I have left out some of the more common at home treatments for high blood pressure. Such as lessening salt intake, exercising regularly and using diuretics.

Those are the most common treatments and most of you probably were already well aware of them.

There are many reasons why you might suffer from high blood pressure such as from a poor diet. Or chronic conditions such as hormone and kidney issues, family history of high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol.

No matter why you struggle with high blood pressure these tips can still help you to feel better and be healthier.

1.    Stop Bad Habits

One of the biggest factors when it comes to natural ways of lowering blood pressure at home is quitting bad habits.

Bad habits such as smoking, overeating, unhealthy diet, excessive alcohol consumption, eating too much sugar and not living an active lifestyle.

All of these poor habits can greatly worsen your high blood pressure putting your health at a greater risk.

Try replacing bad habits with good ones instead of trying to stop everything instantaneously. Try chewing gum instead of smoking or pick up another habit to replace it.

Come up with some creative mocktails instead of heading straight for the alcohol on a night out. Stop eating when you are full and replace heavily processed foods that are heavy with salt and sugar with homemade food.

2.    Reduce Excess Stress

Now I know that this tip is more easily said than done. Wouldn’t we all reduce our stress if it was as easy as saying the words?

Easy or not, however, reducing your daily stressors is an important key to reduce your blood pressure.

Try practicing stress reducing habits such as gentle exercise, yoga, aromatherapy, massage and taking time in nature.

If you want to try aromatherapy with essential oils then try out this essential oil diffuser. It is the one that I use and recommend the most!

Try to pin point what causes you the most stress and see if you could reduce that in any way. If you can’t remove the stressors from your life, then you have to find ways to better manage that stress.

This is such an important step in naturally treating your high blood pressure as stress can greatly affect those with high blood pressure. Stress can cause hormone levels to sky rocket which increases your blood pressure.

3.    Eat Less Saturated Fat

As a general rule whether you have high blood pressure or not eating too much foods that are high in cholesterol or saturate fats isn’t good for anyone.

Saturated fat creates cholesterol in the body which is why it is so important to keep any eye on your saturated fat intake.

Too much cholesterol can have devastating consequences for those with high blood pressure. Leading to much more serious health issues such as stroke or heart disease.

The most cholesterol and saturated fat heavy foods include beef, lard and shortening, saturated vegetable oils and dairy products. All of these foods could greatly increase your high blood pressure.

Try replacing those foods with other healthier foods to fill in the gaps of your diet.

Eat more leafy greens, fish that are high in omega 3, oatmeal and bananas. Try eating dairy free alternatives and lighter foods that still leave you feeling satisfied but without the excessive amount of saturated fats.

4.    Drink Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar as a relatively well know remedy for high blood pressure. Many have found relief from using it though there is still not enough evidence behind the claims to completely understand why it works.

The most important rule when it comes to benefiting from apple cider vinegars is using it regularly.

Like eating healthier and exercising taking apple cider vinegar for high blood pressure also takes time and consistency. Studies have shown individuals who took apple cider vinegar on a daily basis to have higher levels of good cholesterol in their body.

It is believed that apple cider vinegar is able to do this by accelerating the process of absorbing fat.

You can drink a few teaspoons of apple cider a day in some water and see how it makes you feel after drinking it for at least a month or two. Read this article on Why You Should Drink Apple Cider Vinegar for more information!

This is the best selling brand of apple cider vinegar that I use and highly recommend.

5.    Eat Plenty of Garlic

This should be a relatively easy tip because who doesn’t love garlic?

There is research that suggests that garlic can increase the body’s natural production of nitric oxide which can reduce hypertension.

Though garlic shouldn’t be used purely to treat hypertension it can still be a good home remedy to try out when needed.

You can include fresh garlic all throughout your meals which might also help with flavor as you cut back on your salt intake.

And if you just can’t seem to eat enough garlic or don’t like the taste of it you can try these garlic capsules as a replacement for fresh garlic.

Lemon juice is considered to be one of the best at home remedies for hypertension. As it lowers blood pressure levels as well as the triglyceride levels.

Lemon juice is known to lower cholesterol and acts as a mild diuretic which can help to flush excess sodium from the body.

Lemon juice is just another one of those remedies that is very easy to incorporate into your day to day life!

Apple cider vinegar works in much the same way that lemon juice does.
