With the warmer months of the year upon us it is very important to make sure you are staying hydrated and hitting your daily water intake.
Our body is made up of up to 60% of water which just shows how vital it is to our health!

How Much Water Should You Drink Per Day?
Now I hate to tell you this but the eight cups of water per day is a lie. I know, I know it’s shocking!
In fact, we need almost double that amount per day! Averaging at about 15 cups of water for men and 11 cups of water for women.
Of course, everyone is different and requires their own unique amount of water.
For some people eight glasses of water is enough or even less while others may need the full amount.
It all depends on your body and you will have to just see what you react best to.

This is a great summer trick for staying hydrated especially for children!
You can make your own tasty popsicles out of fruit, water, coconut water, fruit juice and coconut milk.
Just make sure you add mostly coconut water or just water in order to have a hydrating treat!

Not a big fan of herbal tea? Well maybe it’s time to give it another try.
Herbal tea is a tasty drink that can be enjoyed without any guilt whatsoever! As herbal teas do not contain any caffeine meaning that they are basically just flavored water.
Herbal tea is a great way to warm yourself up to drinking more water if you’re not used to it.

Drink Infused Water
And speaking of flavored water you can make some amazingly refreshing infused waters to help you stay hydrated as well.
You can use herbs such as rosemary, mint and lemon balm along with all kinds of fruit to gently infuse your water with.
Giving you the benefits of water with just a little something extra to make it more appealing to the palette.
You can add these to your water bottle before heading off on a day out to encourage you to remember to drink more.
Use a Water Bottle
It can be hard to keep track of your daily water intake so get yourself a reusable water bottle to help you stay on track!
You can figure out how many water bottles you need to empty in order to get your daily water intake.
They make it easy to keep track not to mention they are great for days where you’re on the go.
Try Sparkling Water
If drinking water is especially hard for you and you feel yourself struggling to drink enough try drinking sparkling water.
Sparkling water is carbonated like soda but without all of the sugar which helps to dehydrate you.
You can even get flavored sparkling water or infuse it with some fruit until you get used to drinking water.
Eat Water Rich Foods
One tip for staying hydrated is to eat plenty of veggies.
Water rich veggies specifically such as cucumbers, zucchini, celery, bell peppers and cauliflower.
Or water rich fruits such as melons, watermelon, strawberries and oranges.
All being very rich in water which can help you to get your daily water intake without having to drink even more water.
Track Your Water Intake
It can be hard to know just how much water you are drinking so it’s important to track your water intake.
This is where having a water bottle comes in handy as you can get a marked water bottle or mark it yourself.
You could even have several water bottles filled that you have to empty by the end of the day.

By tracking your daily water intake, you are making sure that you are staying hydrated.
Have a Glass with Every Caffeinated Drink?
Every caffeinated drink aids in dehydrating your body. So, it is a good rule to follow that with every caffeinated drink you drink an extra glass of water.
By following this rule, you will be making up for the caffeine that would otherwise be undoing some of your progress.
Be wary of caffeinated teas such as green and black tea as well. As they are no better than coffee is, and all caffeinated drinks should be kept at a minimum.
Drink on a Schedule
This tip again goes hand in hand with tracking your water consumption.
Try to have a kind of water routine that will help you to stay on track with drinking your glasses of water.
Try drinking a certain amount by lunch then a certain amount by dinner and so on. By doing this you will become better at drinking enough water every day!
The Importance of Staying Hydrated
As I mentioned earlier, our body is made up of nearly 60% water. That is a lot of water which means that our body depends greatly on water!
Not consuming enough water can lead to chronic dehydration which can lead to several problems. And not just with your health but with your appearance as well!
Some of the most common symptoms of dehydration are.
- Dark colored urine
- Less urinating
- Dry skin
- Dull complexion
- Muscle cramps
- Dry mouth
Now that we are more aware about the importance of staying hydrated, we can get back to having fun in the sun!
