Essential oils all have their own benefits and can create different reactions.
Some oils promote calm and sleepiness while others wake you up and leave you feeling energized.
As a general rule I like to stay away from citrusy essential oils aside from bergamot oil as they have a stimulating and energizing effect. Which we don’t want in our essential oil blends for sleep!
That is why it is important to keep in mind the oils that are best for winding down and calming.
Once you have that down you can easily blend your own nighttime essential oil blends for a peaceful night’s sleep!
Simple Essential Oil Blends for Sleep
The best essential oil blends for sleep have additional benefits that single essential oils don’t have.
Much like how blending supplements and herbs together is proven to be more effective the same principal applies to essential oil blends.
When blending oils, you can get more creative and use the best essential oils for whatever you are trying to produce. Whether that be stress relief, sleepiness or increase of energy.
By blending multiple essential oils not only will you get a fantastic smelling remedy. But you will increase its benefits tenfold!
- 3 drops Lavender
- 3 drops Peppermint
- 1 drop Wintergreen
Lavender Dreams is a sweet smelling blend of mostly lavender and peppermint oils. Paired with a surprising afternote of sweet almost candy like wintergreen oi!
- 5 drops Chamomile
- 2 drops Peppermint
Nighty Night is a very simple blend of sweet and fresh peppermint paired with the soft floral notes of calming chamomile.
This is the brand of chamomile essential oil that I buy. It is blended with a carrier oil to make it more affordable.
- 4 drops Lavender
- 2 drops Cedarwood
- 1 drop Bergamot
Deep Sleep is a complex combination of floral, woodsy and citrus afternotes. All combining to create a peaceful harmony to relax and sooth.
This is the cedarwood essential oil that I would recommend. I am always happy with it whenever I reorder some!
- 2 drops Peppermint
- I drop Eucalyptus
The ever Classic Goodnight is the simple blend of peppermint and eucalyptus. Both fresh and calming on the mind and body.
Sleeping in the Forest
Sleeping in the Forest is delightfully intriguing with rich notes of resin and wood combined with a touch of floral lavender!
How to Use Essential Oil Blends for Sleep
One of the many benefits of essential oils is that they are very versatile and can be used in many different ways.
Some ways are more effective then others of course but they all provide some wonderful benefits. And can be used according to what your lifestyle needs are.
Using an essential oil diffuser is one of the most common ways of enjoying the benefits of essential oils.
Essential oil diffusers are much like humidifiers as they put out moisture into the air. Only essential oil diffusers are specifically made for essential oils which is Important to keep in mind. As essential oils might damage a normal humidifier.
Essential oil diffusers are a great way to use essential oil blends for sleep as you can have them going throughout the night. Supplying you with a constant stream of your essential oil blend.
This is one of my favorite ways to enjoy the benefits of essential oils as it introduces moisture back into the air. While filling your room with the most lovely scent!
This is an amazing essential oil diffuser that works great and is very affordable if you are on a budget!
You could also use your essential oil blends for sleep in topical ways if you don’t have an essential oil diffuser. Or if you want more direct results.
Using essential oils topically is a great way of seeing fast results!
The most common way to do this is to apply a few drops to the bottoms of your feet. But you could also put a few drops onto any pulse point such as your wrists or temple.
If you want to get creative, you could also add your essential oil blends for sleep to skincare products. Such as bath bombs, shower steamers and bath oils.
Just be careful with the concentration that you use as pure essential oils can be harsh on the skin. It is best to always add a touch of carrier oil if you are going to use essential oils topically.
Another creative way to enjoy some of the best essential oils is to use essential oil candles!
You can either make your own or buy them. Just, make sure that the brand you buy from is really using essential oils and not fragrance oils!
Burning candles scented with essential oils is a great way of enjoying the aromatherapy benefits of essential oils. Just keep in mind that this is the least effective option out of the three as the essential oils are less effective through heat.

My Favorite Oils to Blend
I love to experiment with essential oils and test the waters when it comes to scent combining. But I of course have a few favorites in my collection!
These are just a few of my favorite essential oils when it comes to blending and the ones that I use most often.
As you can probably tell that I love to use this amazing lavender oil in essential oil blends. It pairs so nicely with a wide range of scents.
It also adds such a wonderful calming benefit to any blend that it is added to!
Peppermint essential oil is such a classic when it comes to blending essential oils!
It is fresh and sharp and sweet and adds that something something to each blend that it is paired with. Adding a crispness and freshness.
Cinnamon oil is a huge love of mine as I can’t resist that sweet and spicy scent!
It is surprisingly pleasant when paired with other oils even ones that you wouldn’t expect. Such as cedarwood and bergamot.
One of my favorite essential oils for woody tones is cedarwood as it isn’t too strong or woodsy. But just right for adding a touch of depth.
It pairs great with most essential oils and adds a calming effect.
Rose oil is one of my more recent obsessions which surprised me as I have never enjoyed rose scented things!
But pure rose essential oil has such an elegance about it. It provides a sweet and floral base for any blend as well as adding calming and soothing qualities.
